Hi,
I was meaning to create this thread a while ago but never got to it. A few reports have come out recently and it's been in the news cycle the past week or so, so I figured I'd get it going.
Apparently overdose deaths are close to gun deaths and car accident deaths combined. Health care providers have reacted and prescription opioids and prescription opioid deaths are dropping, but there's now an increase in heroin smuggling, with many cartels avoiding various border walls and getting things in through secure checkpoints as it's easier to get large amounts in that way breaking them up via a multitude of cars and trucks.
While I personally don't know anyone affected, I know a few people that have had kids and family members die.
We have a pretty backwards Attorney General in office who feels marijuana is only slightly less awful than heroin, and Trump doesn't want to follow his own commission's findings, so I'm not sure the administration has any answers, but maybe congress can lead the way?
What are posters thoughts on how to deal with this? I think some drugs, especially those with especially high addiction and death rates, should not be legalized, but we certainly have better ways to deal with this than law enforcement alone, which has never been shown to be effective. So, where do we go?
Any help will be apprecited.
I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
